An article written by Tom Service described Glenn as a \u201cwilfully idiotic genius.\u201d (Service, 2012). \u00a0He was also described him as \u201cAn avoidable presence\u201d, \u201cahead of his time, a prophet even.\u201d \u00a0Service conveys that even thirty years after Gould\u2019s passing, he continues to contribute to an amazed and confuse music arena because of his abilities that some believe were presented before their time. \u00a0 Gould\u2019s idiocies at times caused other\u2019s to pause\u2026 \u00a0Gould could be found with an overcoat and gloves no matter the temperature, \u00a0once being arrested in Florida for being a vagrant (Holland, 2007) , his seating did not change, \u00a0he \u00a0carried the same \u00a0folding chair with him (Service, 2012) Steve Shelokhonov wrote \u201cGould played his piano which was technically adjusted to his touch.\u201d (Shelokhonov, n.d.) Holland questioned Gould\u2019s following, was it warranted 30 years after his death. He believed Gould and his music came to life after his passing. Gould was different, his style, his music, his creations challenged other musicians with his eccentric ways. \u00a0 (Holland, 2007)<\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"font-family: Georgia, Times New Roman, serif; font-size: large;\"><br \/>\n<\/span><span style=\"font-family: Georgia, Times New Roman, serif; font-size: large;\">Debates continue years after Gould\u2019s death, as to whether Gould was autistic and while some believe this to be true because of the idiocies of Gould\u2019s behaviors, others dismiss the idea. \u00a0Timothy Mahoney, a music historian spent a vast amount of time studying Gould and his mannerism, concluding that Gould most likely was autistic, believing Asperger\u2019s disorder most likely fit Gould and his eccentric style. \u00a0According to Mahoney \u00a0 \u201cpeople with AS demonstrate exceptional skill or talent in a specific area. But because of their high degree of functionality and their naivet\u00e9, they are often viewed as eccentric or odd.\u201d (Maloney, 2012). \u00a0\u00a0<\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"font-family: Georgia, Times New Roman, serif; font-size: large;\"><br \/>\n<\/span><span style=\"font-family: Georgia, Times New Roman, serif; font-size: large;\">Have Not \u2026 \u00a0<\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"font-family: Georgia, Times New Roman, serif; font-size: large;\"><br \/>\n<\/span><span style=\"font-family: Georgia, Times New Roman, serif; font-size: large;\">Francis Merson did not believe Gould was autistic. \u00a0In an article titled \u201cGould not Asperger Sufferer\u201d, Merson believed there were other reasons for Gould\u2019s eccentric behaviors identifying extreme phobias or an obsessive personality (Merson, 2011). \u00a0Steven Laurent a clinical psychologist did not believe Gould experience the primary symptoms related to Asperger\u2019s Disorder, limited social interaction, he postulated that Gould\u2019s weaknesses were common place. \u00a0Gould as a social person and often interacted with others for hours. \u00a0 Additionally, Gould was intimately involved with women, thus baring speculation that Gould was Asexual.<\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"font-family: Georgia, Times New Roman, serif; font-size: large;\"><br \/>\n<\/span><span style=\"font-family: Georgia, Times New Roman, serif; font-size: large;\">One eccentric behavior was Gould\u2019s insistent finger tapping. \u00a0Richard Beauchamp (2005). \u00a0While it was believed to be an odd behavior, Gould believed the constant finger tapping maintained his \u201cagile finger technique.\u201d Beauchamp believed Gould suffered from some psychiatric disorder, however, would not lend to Asperger\u2019s (Beauchamp, 2005). \u00a0Gould would also immerse his hands into hot water prior to a performance (2005). \u00a0<\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"font-family: Georgia, Times New Roman, serif; font-size: large;\"><br \/>\n<\/span><span style=\"font-family: Georgia, Times New Roman, serif; font-size: large;\">There are many differences of opinion regarding Gould and his mental health issues. \u00a0The reality of gentleman is\u2026 he was eccentric and while he displayed some odd behaviors, Glenn Gould was a brilliant musician and composer who will be listened to for years to come. \u00a0 <\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"font-family: Georgia, Times New Roman, serif; font-size: large;\">References<\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"font-family: Georgia, Times New Roman, serif; font-size: large;\"><br \/>\n<\/span><span style=\"font-family: Georgia, Times New Roman, serif; font-size: large;\">Beauchamp, R.
