Nervous Hunger

What magazines say about losing weight while eating everything is a gigantic lie.

What happens is that there are so many women who are desperate to lose weight, women who have tried even the most unusual ways to do so, that any diet that appears convinces them.  But the only way to lose a few kilos is to be careful or be like those people who, since they suffer from anorexia nervosa, forget that food exists, or without needing to be like those people, have a habit of eating the necessary amount when they are hungry.  However, it is more common to see people who suffer from what we call “nervous hunger,” i.e., they eat to find release when they have a problem or are going through a time when they feel very tense, such as for example exam time, when they begin to eat exorbitant amounts of fatty foods.  I know a girl who will eat a pot of condensed milk when she is upset.  What these people may have found is that the anxiety does not disappear when they eat, but quite the opposite: they now have twice the anguish; the problem itself and the guilt of having overeaten.

If guided by logic, many women would not suffer from obesity.  It is a mathematical question: if you do not use up energy because you are seated and overeating all day, you cannot expect to be thin; if one does not use up energy and eats little or in proportion to their energy use, they will be thin, although with flabby flesh.  Therefore, it follows that in order to be thin, if your problem is not glandular, you must maintain a certain proportion between the energy you use and your food intake.  And to have a firm body, it is best to exercise constantly.

Everything has been written about diets.  Not only are articles written in magazines, but it is practically the main theme spoken of by women.  And this is where women show their investment skills.  It is true that they’ve made few discoveries to improve mankind, but among these few there are the most varied of diets.  Diets like: the water diet, the orange diet, the pineapple diet, the 5-day diet, the Superman’s girlfriend diet.  But unfortunately, it has been a contribution whose results are short-term because the root of the main problem of obesity is not eliminated: the vice of food, eating for pleasure although people are already satisfied.  And to stop this behavior, the only way is to get used to eating what is necessary, when our bodies ask for it, and to understand that anxiety cannot be solved by eating.
